Good Golf Excercises?

Jake asked:

I am pretty impressed that I have added distance since last year. Last year I was driving around 150-175 but now I am driving around 225-240. What are some good excercises for me to do to gain distance. I would like to be able to drive around 275-285. I don’t have any workout machines at home except for a treadmill. Probably in a week or two I will have a membership to our local gym. Thanks

ANYTHING THAT WILL STRETCH THE TRUNK… THE MORE YOU CAN GET BEHIND THE BALL THE MORE DISTANCE YOU WILL GET… JUST REMEMBER, PUTTING THE BALL IN THE FAIRWAY IS MORE IMPORTANT… ENJOY THE GAME AND HIT ‘EM STRAIGHT…

    Medicine Ball…

Perform a Sit-Up holding a medicine ball. Stop half way up and then twist back and forth touching the medicine ball on the ground alternating from your right side to your left (all at the half way point of a sit up)

Another one that is great is the back machine.

    Good luck!

Do a lot of stretching.. i can now sometimes hit it 300 yards on a perfect hit, but i average around 260-280.. here’s the stretches that i do everyday..

    1) forward bend with club stretch, it’s like a back extension.. leaning forward 90 degrees and holding the end of the club, stretch your back

    2) hock squat, hold the end of a club, then squat..

    3) side stretches

    4) neck extension

    5) x-factor stretch

    6) hamstring stretch

That’s a killer increase in your driving distance. Congrats!

Stretching combined with rotation oriented exercises with a medicine ball are my favorites. I do throwing (you’ll need a wall or a rebounder) as well as non throwing.

IMO, one of the greatest websites and educational resources you can use to learn about the fitness aspects of golf is the Titleist Performance Institutes’s site It has all the info you’ll ever want to know. Really, really good stuff. Keep up the good work.

Wicked sweet increase. If you want to know what you can do to increase muscle mass of those used in golf you can do a bunch of things. first, you can run or do some jumping jacks to increase the muscles in your thighs. second, you can sit-ups and push-ups to increase the muscle in your chest and abdomin. third you can take some barbells and use your wrist to lift them. NOT YOUR ARMS! use your wrists lift them and you will increase the muscle in your forearm.

if you want excercises that will help with chipping, you can take a hoola hoop or bucket and set it up in your backyard and chip into it at various distances.

for putting, you can just take a cup and set it up in your living room and putt into it. you will be surprised at how much that can actually help you.

for driving, there really isnt much you can do, unless you have a large backyard like me :D.

    hope this helps.
