Why Chetan Bhagat ROCKS..
One of the biggest and most prominent authors that we know of today in India and worldwide is Chetan Bhagat. What makes him so different yet rocking? There are a few reasons. I won’t be like a 5th standard student writing a point wise answer for a science question – rest assured.
Well coming back to Chetan, probably one of the youth icons these days- one of his three novels have already been made into a film (Hello, screen version of One Night @ the Call Centre), one is on the verge of releasing (Three Idiots, a would be cinematic form of Five Point Someone), and the other novel named Three Mistakes of My life, the latest and the one that has not yet been grabbed by any film producer/director. One of the primary reasons why he rocks is the language, that’s simple, colloquial, contemporary and cool (as today’s youngsters say).
The backdrop or the setting that the author uses in his stories is very youthful. Be it the IIT campus, or the Call Centre, Mr. Chetan has always made sure that we, the youth relate to it.
Characters woven by him are also very much the kind that we relate to. There will be a Hari (the principal character in Five Point Someone) in all IIT’s who will surely fall in love with a Neha (Hari’s love interest in the novel) in real life. Similarly a group of Call Centre employees in their twenties will surely have to deal with a bullying boss like Mr. Bakshi (a character in One Night @ the Call Centre) in real life. We are sure that amongst us in our daily lives we’ll find a Govind (a character in Three Mistakes of My Life, who dreamt of owning a business)
The chic humor that the author makes use of, instantly strikes a chord among the readers. Use of partial jargons like ‘screwed up’, ‘sick’ at the appropriate position makes it wittily amusing.
Each one of his novels has dealt with a young love story, which seems very real. Be it a call centre love story or a college love tale or a student smitten with her tutor, none of these are irrelative to the present real world of the Young. Also, Mr. Chetan has effectively dealt with several issues in parallels within a story, for example the love angle, religion angle and the business angle in his novel Three Mistakes of My Life.
He has written three blockbuster novels all of which were and are bestsellers; he is as prominent abroad as much as he is in India. We are sincerely waiting for his next.
