Beyond Mercy - a challenge to beliefs

Throughout history, humans have had a need to either believe in or disbelieve in a God/Gods and question the possibility or probability of existence of some form of life after death. No one has had any knowledge from the ‘Unknown’ - all beliefs are from conjecture, old books, and rules passed down through generations.

At one extreme are the people whose beliefs have become so delusional that they are prepared to die, and even to kill others, for the ‘promise of what is to come’ – however bizarre that promise may be. At the other end of the spectrum are those who are convinced that this life is both the ‘beginning and the end’ of existence – either from disbelief in religion or for the lack of scientific proof. In between are vast numbers who accept what they are told without question and live their lives as if this information is the truth. The non believers say there is no proof. The believers insist that they have ‘faith’ and need no proof. Evidence is missing and advantage is taken of man’s innate fear and inevitability of death, as all life must die.

I have written a book called BEYOND MERCY. It is a story about a family in 1497. Some of the members were killed and the book tells what happened and the subsequent search for truth. I believe that these events were documented in 1501 but, as yet, the document has not been found!

I have written the book from information that has come, in bits and pieces, into my mind over several years, but I have done no research, nor have I read any books about medieval times.

So, how do I know what to write? You may think I mad. I am not - far from it, nor am I fanciful. I was trained and worked as a Doctor for over 40 yrs, hardly a fanciful profession.

Let me just say that, after an increasing level of suffering, I few years ago, I had to face death. My life was sustained in the ambulance and A&E dept by the dedicated efforts and expertise of paramedics and medics for two hours. After five and a half hours of unconsciousness, I eventually awoke in intensive care- thinking I was in a telephone exchange!  I was known in the hospital, having worked there as a Consultant for many years, and, though I was apparently expected to die, perseverance of the staff won the day.

When I was conscious, a Consultant said to me ‘ You reached the gate’. I replied, ‘Yes, I know’.

As, sometime during those hours, I visited the ‘gate’ to the spirit world. I saw no ‘bright light’ as others have described while in a near-death experience. No, I travelled a long way and in total darkness. But, I reached a place where there was someone else. Briefly, he told me that I could not enter ‘at the gate’ at that time. I had more work to do and I could not stay, i.e. I was not allowed to die. I was sent back with the order ‘Go back now, your body is getting cold. Write your books. Tell what you know.’

Against all medical and statistical odds, I survived a severe tension pneumothorax, and, after much pain (for reasons related to the prolonged near morbidity) and three subsequent dreadful years, my body has gradually recovered. I can remember that voice as if I heard it yesterday and I have felt compelled to obey that command!

I have no fear of death, but I assure you that only the arrogant or very foolish would disobey such an order from such a place. I am neither.

BEYOND MERCY is the first book, and will be one in a series. The others will all be set in different eras and about other people – some well known, others not.

The book is a long, and I am told is a ‘compelling and astonishing read’.

For my viewpoint, putting the information from my mind into book form was an absorbing challenge, like making a massive jigsaw. I hope I have done justice to the people and events of which I write. While reading the book, readers will learn how, when, and where I expect the proof of the story to be found.

I commit myself to what I have written and I have no doubt that people will have many opinions for and against, but ‘Time’ and only ‘Time’ will be my true judge.

Scepticism and doubts are healthy, but a closed mind is totally limiting. Dare you, who read this article, have an open mind? Dare you read my book and risk questioning and/or changing your beliefs? The choice will be yours.
