Against Doctors Orders-by K.M. Daughters-A Review
The first installment in the Sullivan Boys series, Against Doctors Orders by K.M. Daughters, successfully unites the cops-versus-killer, edge-of-your-seat thrills of suspense with the pulse quickening, face-flushing sizzle of romance.
We meet Lieutenant Daniel Sullivan clinging to life with a bullet wound in his neck. As the attending ER specialist, Doctor Molly Jordan’s job is to stabilize Sullivan’s condition for surgery. Even in his half-conscious state, Sullivan can’t help but flirt with the beautiful, blonde doctor. Molly does her best to see Daniel as any another patient. However, the combination of his self-confidence and vulnerability awakens her long silent sexuality. Sullivan, despite his injury, pours on the charm; delighting in the obvious effect he has on the physician.
Meanwhile, a sadistic killer carries on his brutal campaign. The Henna Housewife Killer stalks and murders red-headed housewives. As a homicide Detective, Danny won’t sit for a prolonged recovery.
Molly and Daniel cross paths again and again. Neither can ignore the growing sexual heat, nor admit they feel much more than passion. Both have built up walls to protect themselves. Molly is a police officer’s widow. She won’t allow herself to love another cop. Daniel’s wife divorced him for another man. He can’t trust women with his heart. He has a serial killer to catch and no time for the strong-minded doctor. She has a stress-filled career and a preteen daughter. Will the two lower their defenses and let each other in? Will they give love another chance?
Daughters have crafted an intriguing story, full of detailed scenes and fascinating, believable characters. Crisp dialogue and an even balance of action and drama keep the pages turning. If men enjoy mystery as much as woman love romance, then Daughters may have created the best of both worlds. The only problem could arise when it comes to deciding who reads the next Sullivan Boys novel first…him or her.
I highly recommend Against Doctors Orders and I look forward to the sequels.
K.M. Daughters is the pen name for team writers and sisters, Pat Casiello and Kathie Clare nee Lynch. The author name is dedicated to the memory of their parents, Katherine and Michael, the “K” and “M” in K.M. Daughters. Inspired by their father who wrote children’s books for them when they were small and their mother’s love of romance novels, K.M. Daughters was “born” a little under five years ago at a Romance Writers of American national conference when the sisters plotted their first manuscript, now published in E-book by Sapphire Blue Publishing: Past, Present and Forever.
Since that conference, K.M. Daughters has written five additional award-winning novels, all contracted to The Wild Rose Press and its new subsidiary, White Rose Publishing. Most recently the 1st book in The Sullivan Boys Romantic Suspense series was distinguished in The Lories published contest; Past, Present and Forever received the Coffee Time Romance and More Reviewer’s award and their upcoming release, Beyond The Code of Conduct was rated 4-stars, compelling, page turner, in the June 2009 issue of Romantic Times Book Review.
K.M. Daughters resides in Illinois and New Jersey with husbands Nick and Tom, a total of five children and two grandchildren between them.
William Potter
attempted his first novel at age eleven when he scribbled a few lines about a giant rampaging crab. The teen years kept his imagination in a state of unrest and he used poetry to journal personal thoughts, achievements and events of those times. He returned to his love of storytelling in his twenties, writing numerous short stories; and now in his forties, has completed two full-length novel manuscripts. Lighting the Dark Side-Six Modern Tales represents his work from the past several years and is his first published book. The collection received the Editor’s Choice Award for short stories from AllBooks Review International in 2009. William resides in New Westminster, Canada with his wife and two children.
